The concrete team completed its work on the 1 million-square-foot, 18-story building under an aggressive schedule. For the concrete construction of the basement, our team used an unusual, aggregate concrete mix that included hematite, an iron-rich form of iron ore. This created the barrier necessary for the MRI, CT scan and other medical technologies there, instead of the 5-inch steel plates normally used.
